Trust us, with enough meat on the bones, Fallout 4 is easily one of the best post-apocalyptic games ever.

17. The Last of Us

Putting you in the perspective of Ellie on her scary quest for vengeance against a group of very bad people who have done some seriously bad things to her that we won’t spoil. We enjoyed the storyline of The Last of Us Part 2 so much that we decided to put it here on our list of the best post-apocalyptic games ever.

The Last of Us Part 2 was always considered to be one of the most anticipated games of all time. It’s clearly won us over, given it has so many great things like insanely detailed graphics, fantastic exciting gameplay, and a plot that feels like reading a good book.

15. Metro 2033

Metro 2033 is set in Moscow’s underground metro system. You’ll take on the character of Artyom, a survivor who’s constantly negotiating the metro system’s hazards, which include mutant monsters and antagonistic groups.

The game combines an insane amount of battle, some very unique exploration tactics, and some seriously cool stealth elements, allowing you to tackle each situation in their own unique way. Guns and ammo are limited, making your life even more difficult. The game also includes a novel gas mask mechanism in which you’ll be constantly managing your limited air supply while exploring Moscow’s hazardous surface.

14. Metro: Last Light

Metro: Last Light continues from where Metro 2033 left off. Artyom is a sole survivor of the nuclear holocaust who is desperately trying to stop a battle between the subterranean groups. Discovering the Metro’s dark secrets and making decisions felt so rewarding as we altered the storyline, each step of the way.

Fans of the post-apocalyptic genre should not miss Metro: Last Light. It’ll have you on the edge of your seat from start to end. We loved playing through this one, each step of the way and enjoyed the immersive vast universe, the somewhat scary plot it offers, and challenging but rewarding gameplay mechanics it has to offer.

13. Metro Exodus

The events of Metro: Exodus take place two years after those of Metro: Last Light. Artyom is the star of the show while living with his wife, Anna, and other survivors in the Moscow Underground. Disappointed with their limited resources and the tight living circumstances, Artyom decides to embark on a mission to locate a new home for his people.

The adventure leads him and his colleagues to numerous sites in Russia, including the Volga River, the Caspian Sea, and the Taiga area. During the voyage, they encounter diverse groups and confront several hardships in their quest to establish a new home.

We believe Metro Exodus to be the best work in the series to date and for good reason. You won’t be able to put that controller down the minute you pick up this game. Chances are, you already have and are loving every minute of it.

12. DayZ

The gameplay of DayZ revolves around survival in a harsh and merciless environment. You will always be on the hunt for food, water, and supplies while avoiding zombies and massively aggressive other people that will come your way. The game has a complicated crafting system that allows you to make your own tools and weapons to help you survive the fittest conditions.

DayZ does lack a typical story mode, but rather givesyou seriously good gameplay. Your interactions with others along the way and the crazy environment goes, you’ll be on your way constructing your own stories. Every DayZ gameplay is incredibly unique, whether it’s joining up with other survivors or engaging in violent firefights.

11. State of Decay

State of Decay is an open-world survival game in which you must scrounge for materials and create a community of survivors to survive. We love how it’s set in a zombie-infested post-apocalyptic world where you’re looking at fighting for your life against massive hordes of the undead.

State of Decay is set in the unknown hills of Trumbull Valley, a rural county in the United States. Following a group of survivors as they attempt to traverse a post-apocalyptic world and form a new society.

State of Decay is an excellent game that brings you a brand new approach to the fascinating zombie apocalypse genre. The permadeath system will keep you going for hours upon end in this extremely hard game.

10. State of Decay 2

State of Decay 2 has a really cool blend of thrilling action, some unique strategy elements, and survival of the fittest gameplay. You’ll be always on the hunt for materials, trying to put together your own base, and recruiting survivors to help you survive in an open world setting. Health management is also key, whether that’s looking after your appetite and exhaustion levels of your survivors, as well as their morale and connections with other survivors.

State of Decay 2 also adds brand new elements over the first release such as a co op multiplayer, in which you can fight together with others to survive. A dynamic weather system is also here, altering the aspects of the game each step of the way.

It provides a hard and fascinating gaming experience with its unique permadeath system, co-op multiplayer, and dynamic weather system that will have you going back for more.

9. Dying Light

Dying Light’s parkour style mobility system in the game allows you to swiftly explore the open-world area while avoiding massive swarms of zombies. The fighting mechanism is really unique and offers a wide range of weapons and skills at your disposal.

The day-night cycle gives you a whole new degree of intensity upon first glance. This is simply one of the most thrilling things about Dying Light that made us come back for more. Zombies are slow and feeble during the day, but at night, they grow more aggressive and are extremely more challenging to go up against.

Dying Light is a game you won’t want to miss out on, especially if you’re on the hunt for a good zombie game.

8. Mad Max

Max will discover the mysteries of the wasteland and the events that led to its demise as he continues through the game. During his days, Max will meet a variety of individuals, bringing you a unique set of quirks and motives to take on Max.

We seriously enjoyed playing through Mad Max, considering how well the movie tie in felt in the game as we explored throughout the world of ruin.

7. Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is a wonderfully crafted RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world. You’ll be taking control of Aloy, a talented hunter and archer who navigates civilization’s ruins and hunts mechanical creatures.

Combat mechanisms in the game are both hard and rewarding, forcing players to employ strategy and quick reactions to defeat foes. You’ll also have your hands tied making weapons, armour, and traps to help you along the deadliest of quests. The open-world format of the game lets you explore a large and gorgeous area while finding secrets and performing some really cool side missions.

6. Nier: Automata

This War of Mine depicts a group of citizens imprisoned during a horrifying battle in a besieged city. You’ll learn about the characters’ backstories and build emotional ties with them as you play. The narrative of the game is shaped by your choices, with each decision influencing the fate of the characters.

3. The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series
